Select four spiders to be on the "Spider Survivors Show". You are the show’s host. Tell how you would introduce each spider.

Which spider do you think will be the ultimate survivor? Why?

Write a news article about the spider’s success.

Write a cinquain poem about one of the spiders. A cinquain is a special poem that is written with five lines.

  • 1st line: one word title
  • 2nd line: two words to describe title
  • 3rd line: three words expressing action concerning the title
  • 4th line: four words expressing feeling concerning the title
  • 5th line: one word which is a synonym for the title

Here is a sample cinquain poem:

    Spiders
    Tiny, black
    Running all around
    Watch out for them
    Hiding

Now try writing your poem on construction paper. Using a clear liquid glue, draw a spider web over your poem. Allow this to dry for 2 hours.

Be a spider mathematician.

  • You have learned that in a spider cinquain, there is one word in the first line, two words in the second line, three words in the third line, four words in the fourth line, and one word in the fifth line. How many total words are there in a spider cinquain?
  • Twenty students were searching for spiders in a garden. They divided up the garden into four search areas. Five students searched in area A. Four students searched in area B. How many students combined were left to search areas C and D?
